Buenos Días, peregrinos! Today’s post is a slight detour from my Camino story. I would like to introduce Pilgrim Profiles. These profiles offer unique perspectives and practical advice from pilgrims of different backgrounds.
Selfishly, it is a lovely way for me to reconnect with those pilgrims that made my journey so special! I am excited to introduce you to Becky. In the last post I introduced Becky as the first person I met on the Camino de Santiago. She is wonderful and has offered to share her perspective on the good, the bad, and the magical aspects of the Camino. Hope you enjoy!
Name: Becky M.
Where Are You From?
San Luis Obispo, CA
Where did you start and finish the Camino?
Started: St Jean Pied de Port 9/22/14
Finished: Santiago 10/22/14
Why did you decide to walk the Camino de Santiago?
A friend Dede (blonde in the your photo) wanted to do it, so Linda (the other person in the photo) asked me and I said yes! Four others from SLO joined us.
Did you have a princess moment?
The last 3 nights I spent in Santiago I booked a beautiful hotel with all the amenities plus a view of the cathedral. After staying in albergues this was exquisite!
Did you have a magic moment?
I think the most magical moment for me was meeting a Brazilian man who was struggling in his life. We walked together one full day and I knew I would meet up with him in Finisterre. And I did and he was happy.
What was your best experience?
I loved meeting and walking with people from all over the world, then sharing dinner at the end of the day.
What was your worst experience?
Getting blisters after my shoes had 300 miles on them – running shoes last only 300 miles for me.
What was your favorite gear that you would recommend?
A good pair of hiking poles. I recommend LEKI. They keep the arms moving and blood circulating in your hands.
(Princess Note: For more advice on packing for the Camino, check out my post HERE)
What advice would you give to someone who is on the fence about going?
GO – JUST GO. YOU OWE IT TO YOURSELF.
What advice would you give to someone who is going?
Take an extra pair of shoes.
