Let me introduce you to Andre. I met Andre toward the end of the Camino and we have become close friends ever since. I hope you enjoy his (salty) profile!
Name: Andre B.
Where are you from?
Cape Town, South Africa
Where did you start and finish the Camino?
Leon to Santiago (330km)
Why did you decide to walk the Camino de Santiago?
I had a bad break-up some months before and generally felt like I needed a hard reboot for my life.
Did you have a princess moment?
I met one along the way, so yes 🙂
Did you have a magic moment?
I had several… although the entire experience has a gentle magic to it. The chestnut forests along the Camino Duro sections, as well as arriving in Santiago and Finisterre were incredible moments though.
What was your best experience?
Dining with a guy who looked like a homeless person, but was completing his tenth full Camino at the time. He carried his 10 credenciales with him – a real moment of reassessing how I appraised people.
What was your worst experience?
Apart from struggling with a heel tendon issue, I only had neutral or amazing experiences – nothing awful.
What was your favorite gear that you would recommend?:
(Princess Note: For more advice on packing for the Camino, click here)
What advice would you give to someone who is on the fence about going?
The same as the tattoo parlours in Thailand – never try, never know.
What advice would you give to someone who is going?
Pack less – if your pack weighs more than 10kg, you’re carrying too much.
